Nice to meet you!

Emma Ganton

She /Her Registered Social Worker, BISW Psychotherapist

Everything and everyone moves so fast these days! It’s hard to hear ourselves think when we are constantly bombarded by outside sources, our own schedules, and the increasing demands of everyday life. It can be a challenge to find time for ourselves, let alone time to work through the inevitable pain and heartache we encounter in life. That’s where I come in. I am passionate about creating a space where you can find solace, hear your own voice, and work through pain. I believe even if you are unsure of what you are looking for by coming to therapy, when we listen closely enough, questions and answers always reveal themselves. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling lighter, and more in touch with your own needs. I look forward to meeting you where you are at, and gently partnering with you as we nurture self-compassion and self-acceptance together.

Emma has over 7 years of experience working in the field of mental health. Her diverse work experience has shaped her into the clinician she is today. Emma brings wisdom and knowledge from her work with child welfare agencies, residential teen & adult treatment programs, sexual exploitation rehabilitation, crisis intervention work on a community and hospital level, as well as school social work counseling children, teens, and families.

Emma attended the First Nations University of Canada and was trained with an Indigenous holistic approach to healing, with a focus on balancing the spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental states within. She is committed to a strengths-based, trauma informed, anti-oppressive practice and enjoys working with clients from all cultural backgrounds, age groups, and walks of life. Emma utilizes a holistic approach to therapy, and ensures the treatment plan, sessions, and modalities utilized are tailored to each client. She draws on components of Attachment-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy, and Emotion Focused therapy, with elements of the Polyvagal theory and embodiment work. Emma works with a variety of diagnoses, including Anxiety, Depression, Panic Disorder, PTSD, ADHD, ASD, Personality Disorders, and teen specific mental health & gender identity struggles. She believes in continuous learning and personal growth for herself and is currently pursuing further certifications through Wilfrid Laurier University.

“My approach as a therapist is to first establish a sense of safety within the therapeutic relationship (myself & client), while encouraging my clients to create safety within themselves. Secondly, we build capacity. Capacity to face pain and hardships, and capacity to feel and work through our biggest emotions. Thirdly, we heal; allowing our increased capacity to make room for new growth, new opportunities, and new dreams.”
