Depression Therapy
Find your happiness
Is Depression Leaving You Exhausted and Feeling Stuck?
Do you struggle to find energy for the activities you once loved?
Are you feeling isolated from your social circle?
Are you feeling numb or indifferent about important things that are happening around you?
Are you noticing an increase in pessimistic thoughts and a negative attitude?
Chronic low mood and depression can hit at anytime, even when there doesn’t seem to be an obvious trigger. Perhaps you are struggling to sleep most nights, or even oversleeping to avoid the days. Is your energy so low that simple tasks such as housework and showering are now difficult to do? Maybe you drag yourself to be social, but find little enjoyment in being out with your family and friends. Depression affects all areas of life, and many people complain of an overall numbness and sense of hopelessness about the future.
Most people suffer from depression in silence:
Many people decide not to tell others about their low mood or depression because of the fear that they will be a burden to others or that their loved ones will worry. They deal with all the stressors and agony of depression on their own, usually putting on a “happy face” when forced to face others. Perhaps they try to tell someone they trust, but it usually is met with unhelpful advice. Many parents are scared to show their kids that they are depressed, out of fear that it will negatively impact them. And so it goes, the cycle of “just getting through the day” with complete exhaustion.
What does therapy for depression look like?
Depression therapy is shown to be a very effective treatment for chronic low mood. The current gold standard approach is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, a specialized area that targets depressive thoughts, behaviours, body symptoms and negative mood states. Most people find great benefit in depression therapy when delivered by a trained and licensed therapist. Sometimes, people also decide to try medication as part of the treatment process.
Treatment for depression varies greatly, and the length of time spent in therapy depends on many factors including the nature of the low mood (is it situational? chronic?) and how it’s impacting the person’s life. The client is asked to practice many strategies at home between sessions to help speed up the process! Typically, people report feeling better anywhere from 4 to 12 therapy sessions.
How will my life look different?
Depression is not simply just about the low mood. It negatively affects many areas of our life, including sleep, work and school, eating habits, relationships and sex life, ability to exercise or participate in hobbies, hygiene, parenting, physical health, and overall enjoyment of life. People with depression often feel hopeless and even suicidal at times. The person may miss who they used to be and yearn for the feeling of happiness they once had. With a trained therapist, depression can slowly by lifted, symptoms alleviated, and the person is supported into moving into a still bright future that they once had.
Therapy for depression can help you find happiness again. Imagine feeling open, willing, and excited to do the activities you once loved.
